Shades/Blinds with challenging windows

Hey guys - I’m curious on what kind of shades you would get with these windows. There are a few challenges with these: (a) most of the windows will have furniture in front of them and have larger sills so drapes won’t really work (b) was initially thinking of doing roman shades inside the window frames however, I’m concerned they will affect the operation of the windows BUT (c) if I do outside mount, it won’t work on this window (build in bookshelf cuts into the window casing) or the one by the door (casing is right up against door casing) - I’d love to hear any possible solutions and/or what you think is the best compromise.

Hey @kateseymour! For tricky windows like this where curtains won’t work, I’ve always defaulted to using honeycomb (also called cellular) shades. They are not exactly a design statement, but they do the job and blend in pretty well if you match the color to your trim or wall paint.

I am a fan of the light filtering versions, but they also come in blackout. I have both manual operation ones from Select Blinds (these: https://www.selectblinds.com/cellular-shades/cordless-top-down-bottom-up-light-filtering-shades.html, the bottom up functionality is pretty nifty, especially for ground floor rooms for privacy) and more lux remote-controlled battery powered ones on timers from Lutron / Serena (these: https://www.serenashades.com/).

Thanks, I think I would go for romans in this instance, just worried that with the way the window operates, I won’t be able to do an inside mount. Don’t think I can match the cellulars to this room, it’s going to be a very dark blue Spoak
