Hi, I live in a log cabin that I have decorated mid-century modern with a bit of rustic blended in. It actually works.
I have a window above my kitchen sink, and I want to hang a pendant light to make the space more interesting. Do any of you talented people have suggestions for size? My sink is 33 inches wide. I’m seeing lots of pendants I like that are about 11.5 inches wide, but I’m afraid it will be too obscuring. I like the wood/metal or wood/rattan combos. Will those be too dense for in front of a window? Thoughts?
Hi Joy!
Obsessed with the sound of your mid-mod/rustic cabin! it’s sounds lovely!
I actually have a really similar sink set up! I ended up thrifting a nice brass pendant that I thought might be too small but I actually really love it in the space. here’s the mock up for my kitchen- Spoak
I think something with rattan like you mentioned or even glass(?) would work well to still let some light through if you want to do a slightly bigger diameter!
Hi Joy!
I dont think a pendant light would be too obscuring at all over your sink. I think like everything else its all about proportions. I love rattan too and think it would look great with your theme. i also attached some images of dainty-ish/smaller pendant lights that are metal that might look cool? i know you said you liked wood and metal combos and midcentury. i also second what molly said, glass would look great too.
11.5" is actually a great size, you’re right in the safe zone for an 8 ft-ish space . To avoid blocking the window, choose a more open weave or lighter rattan. Wood/rattan combos work beautifully, just skip dense, solid shades. Hang it slightly higher than usual so it adds interest without cutting your sightline.
You guys are awesome! Thank you for the feedback!!!
