Hi everyone,
I have hit a creative block designing my living area and would love some fresh perspectives.
My desire: I need this space to be a hybrid. It needs to be comfortable enough to relax alone or with friends (reading, studying, or playing), but it also needs to look structured enough to receive clients or guests in a more formal setting. I can use plasterboard to shape spaces as needed, but i like the idea of an open space.
As you can see from the attached house plan, the living room is connected with the kitchen through an opening on the separation wall.
In addition, there is a closed veranda that connects the kitchen and the living room. I understand the veranda could be really useful, but I have no ideas how to use it.
Do you have any idea on how to design this space?
Thank you all!
Hi!! Love the layout of your space. I had a couple ideas that might be helpful!
My favorite design idea for spaces like these are to make both the living room close to the kitchen and the back half of the living room two separate spaces that feel like two separate living rooms. This thought process would allow for a casual living space for relaxation and the smaller living area for clients or more formal areas for holidays or special occasions. You could have no separation between both rooms other than a change of decor and furniture or have the furniture facing opposite directions. My favorite option is to insert room separators or even doors with frosted glass, totally clear glass, or natural wood separation to make it feel like separate rooms without making anything feel closed off. The doors are a great idea if you are capable, so that when you need to meet with clients in a formal setting you can make it feel like an official space and have privacy and when clients aren’t around it can feel like an open, combined spice. I attached some pictures for reference.
To explain my idea further, to make the “formal” area where you meet with clients a fancy feeling waiting room that can double like a living room. It can feel professional but also intentionally inviting and comfortable. Some attached ideas:
These are two of my designs that I made that could be considered as “waiting areas” but also living areas:
Option #2 would to define the back half of the living room as a designated official office with a desk. Some attached ideas:
Small verandas can be super fun to work with. They can be super cozy and intimate. Some cool ideas for the veranda:
