Hi there! I live in a newly renovated ranch style house at the beach from the 70s. I want to paint/ design one of the bathrooms in my house and cannot decide what direction to go in. I wanted to do a moodier color and color drench the walls but I am not sure if that’s too much in a bathroom without a window. My style is usually a mix of coastal eclectic, bohemian, moody, etc. I’m mostly looking for help with 2 things.
Hi!
What a fun project!
IMO, moody, color-drenched walls can absolutely work in a windowless space! In fact, I kind of prefer it . The key is to be thoughtful with the finish (satin or eggshell can reflect just enough light) and to balance the moodiness with texture, in this case, I’d probably suggest changing out the vanity for something with a wood finish or more texture.
Are there any colors you have in mind when thinking about this space?
paint finish. I don’t know too much about paint and I’ve been trying to learn more! I was leaning toward this color or even thinking about potentially doing wallpaper. I really like this color but I’m just not sure how to turn it into the eclectic, relaxed, boho vibe I’m going for with the rest of our house. Here is the link to my pinterest acct for my house in case that helps at all.
I do not expect you to get back to me but thank you so much again for taking the time to respond! Have a great day, Molly!
I agree with Molly about colors. You also want to keep in mind that you’ll need something that bridges the gap between the gray tiles and the warmer colors you want to bring it - a wallpaper could do that. Vanity depends on what you end up going with, it could be painted if necessary
Hi!! color drenching is all the rage right now and honestly, I’m here for it. I have two bathrooms that are windowless, and you can totally go bold in those rooms. Upgrading the lighting helps, and i think, essential, when you dont have the luxury of natural light. im always a fan of can lighting in rooms if you’re able. or upgrading your light over the vanity if that doesnt put off enough light, although it looks from the picture that it would be fine. choosing the light tone is so critical in selecting the vibe you want. dont, be afraid to buy a ton of different light bulbs to test out the vibe you’re going for. anyways, here are some ideas i saw for color drenched bathrooms that would go well with your grey/white bathroom tiles. I felt the greens are slightly moody but also not overly dark and heavy. greens could be boho, costal, moody all at the same time depending on your decor. blues are always a great option for costal and moody depending on how dark you go. I also love this terra cotta type color for full blown boho. as for the vanity you could refinish it in the same color as your walls, like that super deep deep blue picture i attached. im also a giant fan of natural wood vanities to brighten things up if you’re worried about it being tooooo moody. i attached a couple of examples. also open vanities with metal plumbing exposed can be fun too depending on the vibe you’re going for.
Moody colors can look amazing even in windowless bathrooms—try deep teal, charcoal, or terracotta with good lighting. For your coastal-eclectic style, pair with brass or natural wood accents. If your vanity’s in good shape, update it with paint and new hardware. Otherwise, go for a wood or floating vanity to keep it airy and beachy. Add a bold mirror and textured details to finish the look!
Hi Kristin! Thank you SO much for your advice. I’ve still been struggling to decide on a color for this room. The room directly across from it is a deep green so I was trying to avoid doing green in the bathroom but I do love all of those examples you attached! I think we will color drench for sure!
To undo the plain and minimalist feel a big thing will be replacing the tiles, you can add tiles that are smaller striped ones like thin stripes made out of tile in your colour scheme you want so pink and white and red and white, any colour you want with white. If you don’t want to go through such a pain replacing the tiles add wallpaper or paint the walls. The sink needs help but to unsure you are not replacing the whole sink (you can if you want) paint the cupboard and replace the black faucet for a more stylish gold one . You can also replace the cupboard knobs the shower head, tap and lamp for more enhanced looks, also change the shower curtain and rod. Finally, add decor and replace the plant and painting add a bath mat etc. Of course doing all of this would be really costly and timely so you can use only some of these suggestions. Hope this helped .
