Colors look different across devices

Ok so this is kind of a weird question, but something I’ve struggled with and I wonder if I’m alone in this and/or if there is an easy fix… Sometimes when I’m designing a Vizi or mood board, whether it be on Spoak, Power Point, etc, and especially with bolder colors, the color will appear much differently on my laptop vs my phone (which I usually default to). So much so that I have had to redo paint selections, fabric, art, and so on because they don’t coordinate or fit the vibe I had intended. For example, I found a bed using my laptop that I thought was a deep magenta, designed the whole room around this vibrant color scheme, only to pull it up on my phone and see that it is clearly a dull purple. And IRL it’s probably a bit different as well. I wasn’t able to find a suitable replacement and had to shift my vision substantially. I realize this has to do with brightness and color settings, but it’s very frustrating to spend hours on a design and then have to scrap it. Any suggestions on the best way to get true colors across your devices?

Hey @coritadrus,

I totally understand what you’re going through, and it’s not a weird question at all!

I face this issue quite often in my work. I’m in charge of the rendering area at Form Kitchens. We sell cabinetry in various colors, so our renders need to look as accurate as possible. I constantly struggle with color consistency across different devices. Our renders look different on my phone compared to my laptop, and it gets even trickier with clients because we can’t control which devices they use to view our renders.

After feeling extremely frustrated, I bought a secondary HP screen to use alongside my laptop. This has helped a lot with accurately seeing colors and textures. Additionally, we decided to add a disclaimer to our renders, stating that all views are artistic representations of our cabinetry and that there might be slight color differences depending on the device used. We always suggest that our clients should rely 100% on the physical finish samples we send them before placing an order with us.

Hope you find these recommendations helpful.
Let me know what you think!

@danielaulloa, thank you for the helpful feedback! So you find the HP monitor to have truer colors than your other devices? I might look into getting another monitor then, I wish there was a better way but this does sound like a great solution.

Yes, totally! This is my current setup  I just opened the same image, and as you can see, there’s a difference between my laptop and my monitor. I have the HP N246V. It might not be the fanciest one, but it has helped a LOT with checking the color accuracy of our renders.
