Kitchen Feedback

Hi Spoak community,

Finalizing plans for our kitchen reno and wow is there a lot to decide! We’ve already purchased these pistachio green cabinets with a darker wood hood and island accents. I’m having a hard time deciding on the countertops. My husband wants to go dark, which I like the practicality of but worry it will be too dark/heavy. We do have a lot of natural light and currently have black granite countertops so we are used to it. Just want to get some other opinions here! I feel like the light quartz is the safer option but I’m a bit torn here! Including phots of the actual colors plus some renderings for ref.

Wow @marietaylor! I love the pistachio color cabinets. So chic. I think I agree with your husband  There is something about the dark countertops that ties the pistachio and dark wood cabinets together.

White quartz is definitely the safer option. If you go this route, I would rethink the white tiles. Is the backsplash tile set?

I usually like the tuxedo look where the island is a different material, but think is my least favorite option of the renderings you shared. Hope this helps!

Thank you for your feedback @simonebaxter1 ! I do think the darker moodier vibe is more our style. Tile backsplash is not set yet, currently have my eyes on fireclay 3x3 ‘salt creek’ white but I do worry about these getting grimy behind the cooktop. Any opinions on sink color? should it match countertop color or would white lighten it up?

Hi @marietaylor! I agree with Simone, go with the dark! I am totally biased though as I have black soapstone counters and love the look. I find it makes the kitchen feel more homey than clinical. We have a black farmhouse sink and black faucet. I love how the sink blends with the countertops. You can see some pics I posted here (mainly of the floors so lmk if you’d like to see more counter pics).

Thank you @isalyn I really like your countertops! I’m considering soapstone too for a more natural look. Have you found it to be high maintenance, or is it relatively durable in day-to-day use? Also, the little kitty pulls it all together for me!

I love my soapstone counters. They are very durable and I love how you can thaw things in half the time on them. But candidly, they are a bit higher maintenance than I thought they would be, especially in the first few years. I’ve had my counters for 3+ years now and have tried oil and wax seals. Oil required almost monthly oiling to avoid water rings in the first year. So after the first first months, I stripped the oil and then waxed. Wax has been a better solution and I only wax once a year now. If you like the look of raw soapstone without oil or wax, that’s probably the lowest maintenance.

Green and white top combination only
Green is very good for kitchen for positivity
Single color looks elegant
