Help! Office design

Looking for smarter people than me  this is my home office. I don’t know how to make this space feel Whole. I like the desk in the middle of the space, looking at the double doors to the hallway but I have to work how to organize cords for computers and monitor for it to be workable. I don’t know what to do with the wall on the right. Currently a long tapestry, is that the wrong thing? Wha should I do with the big open space behind the desk? I’m a huge reader so I would love to keep the books

this is such a beautiful office!! a few ideas:

  • i think if you want the desk in the middle of the room it would be awesome to get a desk with a bit more bulk – like with built in drawers on the bottom on either side of the leg space, and with a backing behind the leg cubby (so you can’t see under your desk from the front of the room). it would help with the visual weight and scale and you could hide cords in there (like velcroing a surge protector to the back of your leg cubby)
  • i also was chatting to a member the other day who bought cord holders and actually used them to create a wave-like shape with her cord, thereby making the cord an actual design element instead of somethign to hide. another idea would be to buy or make a fabric cord cover (they come in all fabrics and types!)

i love the books in the shelf and would keep them, though i’d love to see a big painting or tapestry in the big open nook in the center. it would also make for an awesome zoom background

as for the wall on the right, what about a huge fabric pin board to pin inspiration onto? like this? you could DIY a huge one with a fabric of your choice, or you could get 3 in a row and hang it like a triptych. that way you can keep changing up the specifics of what’s on the wall, and it’s really energizing for your workspace

Wow thank you! I had no idea a cord cover even existed. This is very helpful.
I agree with needing a larger desk, more substantial in weight. Sadly this is convertible to a standing desk but might be time to say goodbye!

hi!

definitely agree with you both on the desk in the middle of the room. If you really want the functionality of the standing desk, I’ve been seeing some people DIY bases that hide/add bulk to the legs of the standing desk, that could be a good way to add some bulk but still have the option to stand when you want to!

Keep the desk centered, it’s a strong focal point. Use cable management like cord covers or an under-desk tray to hide wires. Add a tall bookshelf or low library wall behind the desk to showcase your books. Replace the tapestry with framed art or floating shelves for a more structured, cohesive look.

Hey Candice,

You have a beautiful space there. I can give you some helpful tipp, what u can do with the thing u already have.

As interior designer I would suggest the following:

I see you do have some things that match perfectly together… the wall art is beautiful. Its a little gem, but it doesn’t pop out. So what you could do: Paint the wall in back as an acsent wall in the same collor as the the art: Light or middle light blue.

Then, I would remove the carpet. It catches the eye to much and gets to much attention.

I would move the table, so you can look out of the windows. If you work and need a flow that helps not to look at white walls.

Then: the shelf. What I would do. Use only two sections of the shelfs for books. Assort them by colors or topic. Sorting by color calms the eyes. The rest of the shelfs can be used as space for pictures in frames, flowers in a vase or for room sentence. In the center of the shelf you could ad a very big vase with fresh flowers or decor gras. And you could ad one or two spots to highlight that space.

The Bank in front of the window I would replace with a little sofa. Nothing big or fancy… but there you could ad textile… a blancet and decor pillows, also in different blue color tones.

I personaly would ad a floor lamp in blue or white.

I hope that helps :). Have a lovley day,

Best Dania
